Can I Store Firewood Outside?
Yes, it is perfectly fine to store firewood outside as long as you follow proper storage guidelines to keep the wood in good condition. Properly stored firewood can be kept outdoors without issues. Here are some key considerations for outdoor firewood storage:
1. Elevate the Wood: Keep the firewood off the ground by using pallets, or a dedicated firewood storage unit like our Strong Timber Log Storage Unit. This helps prevent moisture absorption from the soil and reduces the risk of pests.
2. Cover the Wood - While outdoor storage is acceptable, using a roof or cover is highly recommended. A roof or cover will protect the firewood from rain and snow, preventing it from becoming too wet. A sloped roof design helps with water runoff and keeps the wood relatively dry. Timbertrove Log Stores feature a sloped roof, and a PVC cover can be added for extra protection.
3. Proper Air Circulation: Ensure good air circulation between the logs. Stack the firewood with gaps between the pieces to allow air to flow through the stack. Our Log Store unit has been designed to allow air to flow through the unit.
4. Choose a Suitable Location: Position the outdoor firewood storage unit in a location that is convenient for you, but not too close to your house or other structures. This prevents pests from being attracted to the wood and possibly entering your home.
